WORST DAMN SPORTS SHOW - COMMENTARY |
TRAFFIC NIGHTMARES:
Aren't we all stuck in traffic for too long as it is?
![]() TELL YOUR COUNCIL YOU DON'T WANT THE STADIUM-
We have had enough gridlock! EMAIL THEM: council@ci.oceanside.ca.us Studies show that the transportation infrastructure will NOT be able to get 68,000 fans and stadium users in and out of the area within the relatively short period of time required. (coming soon) Available transit including the Sprinter, the Coaster, I-5, Highways 78 and 76 simply do not have the capacity to move thousands of people in and out of Oceanside within the short period of time required for events.
Putting the stadium at the old drive-in theater site will be a disaster. That has only 4 lanes in and out of the area and NO public transportation to speak of.Local Businesses will be severely impacted: Lost Revenue Our businesses will be impacted by fans and others looking for free parking and a place to tailgate that fill up our local parking lots. Studies show that people going to games do not go to local stores for their supplies.
Plus, people simply are NOT going to tailgate in office buildings nor will they be allowed to do so on private property. Remember the tailgate car fire in one of those structures? People from out of town will park in the lots for our stores and fill them, leaving us to figure out alternatives that may include going to other towns like Vista and San Marco to shop.
What does all this translate into: lost tax revenues. Tailgaters don't buy from local stores, they just want free parking.
Neighborhoods will be severely impacted
There are homes literally right across the street from this site. Who among us would wish the traffic and noise upon their neighbors? People have literally invested their life savings in their homes knowing that dedicated parkland was across the street. Who is going to pay these folks for the loss of their homes? The loss of the quiet enjoyment of ones home is
Why won't the city admit they will have to take peoples' homes?
Local traffic will cut through all our neighborhoods as neighbors try to avoid the gridlock on the freeways and especially Oceanside Boulevard, Mesa Drive and College
Caltrans plans more lanes but we all know that those come too little and too late. In light of the State of California's budget mess I wouldn't expect more lanes on I-5 in Oceanside for quite awhile. And has the city even seriously considered the additional costs for Code Enforcement officers and tow trucks to get rid of the cars clogging our neighborhoods in search of free parking? The cost for permit-parking enforcement will be huge! The city is already short on the number of code enforcement officers and has shown a continued unwillingness to hire more.
We already have streets packed with residents. Where will these people park?
Adding a stadium will create nightmare gridlock every day of the week both in and out of our neighborhoods! We don't deserve this. Tell your Council you don't want a stadium! Please, join the mailing list on the home page and we will keep you informed about our activities
